I put Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell ahead of Terror at Beslan simply because I knew it would be a fun book, and it was. It covered his tortuous training through Buds which was very interesting to me because 1. I am into training my body and pushing it, and 2. it parallels all the exercises that you do at SealPT, which is former Navy Seal Jack Walston’s workout programs here in Houston and in NYC, you can check out his program at www.sealpt.com and sign up for his next boot camp. You will want to after reading this book.

Marcus Luttrell is a Texas native and Navy Seal that went to Afghanistan three others from with Seal Team 10 and fought an incredibly heroic and inspiring battle that all warriors should read.

It’s a good book about great American Warriors and a great Texan.

Agree Hoff. I picked up his book after seeing him on one of the morning shows, real patriot. Supporting a warrior and a really good read to boot, cannot beat that. Highly reccomend it.

Good read.
This really shows the difference between 4 highly trained guys and 200 + dedicated but undiscipled radicals.

Marcus and his team demonstrated the qualties that personfies the Elite American Soldier.

Also a prime example that not all muslims are anti everything but there kind. Marcus would not have made it except for the sacrifices by the loacls in the village that risked there own personal safety and that of there families to do so.

Yes, and I sure am glad they worked out the technicalities regarding the rules behind The Medal so that he got it because, if he did not deserve it, I don't know who would. I remember my father [Capt. Larry Going (Army ret.)] passing on some wisdom to me before I left for boot camp: "Son, a good leader will always take care of his men before he takes care of himself". I'll be damned if he wasn't right and I thought about his telling me that (as I often do) when I read that part of the book. I was also reminded of what a perfect example of Lt. Murphy's living the scripture John 15:13 his choices and actions were. Obviously, not having been in that situation, I cannot even conceive of what it took for him to make the decision, get on his feet and move to make the call. To try to put it in a context I might understand, I think how difficult it would be to run out into the middle of Interstate 59, say North of the Beltway (drivers speeding up as traffic thins with more lanes), during rush-hour, and drivers are actually aiming their vehicles at you - to make a phone call, knowing that is the only way to save your men.

You're damned right he deserves The Medal.

Imagine all the stories of all the other warriors who do things like this and we don't even hear about it.

Just finished the book, and must say that it was an excellent read.

Luttrell takes you on a rollercoaser ride from his early life, through his training, the battle on Murphy's Ridge and his return home. The battle itself, and the courage displayed by the SEALs, is amazing. Their mindset, you are never out of the fight, is worth remembering. These guys literally fought until their last breath.

Now...if Hollywood could produce a movie on this book, I suspect it would be an instant hit. Our nation and our children are starved for role models and heroes.

I picked up this book for my Ike reading. I enjoyed the book and it's meandering style. I finished it in 2 days. LOL
So, it didn't last, and I continued on with reading my "Devil's Broker".
