I enjoy shooting any and all guns even if it is just to make sure that I know how to operate it should I ever have to. The Sig is a high quality weapon. With practice anyone can master the Double/single action. The other option is Sigs DAK Trigger which is the shortest double action trigger available that I can find. With any gun it still comes down to practice, practice, practice.

the operator is definately the most important factor...and if the pistol is at hand, as was wisely stated. I like the Beretta Brigadier Mod 92, even though it's kinda heavy...I can't explain it, it just feels right and works with all the ammo I've put in it, including corroded ammo, reloads and aluminium and steel cases. I also like the Glock 19 but they discourage using all-lead bullets, reloads and non-brass cases, so I have to be nice to it...

Welcome garum and thank you for your contribution here. I'm not here to correct anyone or get into a pis.sing contest... just to pass on what I've heard from an officer I used to work with; if he's wrong, then it is clarified and shared with everyone here - from what he told me about his testing of Glocks and everything he could get his hands on and my experience testing ammo through guns, I would say - try it! No one likes shooting all lead, but I'm of the opinion that if the person is reputable, you have a decent level of respect for them and they know what they're doing, reloads should be NO problem through your Glock. I've shot a couple thousand rounds of reloads through mine and other pistols... and we're still going strong! My beat partner even tested the bas.tard underwater in his parents' pool and guess what? --> It's a Glock... it is simply GOING TO WORK!
.......................... then again, I could be wrong... anyone?

Myself and specrat after a Tactical Shotgun class shot with consistently targets starting at 100 yards, 150 and then 200 yards with our 1911's . We were hitting a steel pie plates almost every time. Phil was our witness and printed us out certificates "2-200 yards with a Pistol".
The trajectory was interesting since I was shooting .45 rounds 200 yards.
Actually shooting at 2 yards or 200 yards all you have to do is follow Brain Hoffners fundamentals and you will get your hits! |

I like to carry a Glock 19 it is a great gun but like previously stated may lack a little fire power. I just purchased a Springfield XD 45 (Service Model) and love it but it is much harder to conceal but really packs a punch.
I am more of a long gun person but am getting into more training with my handguns. I am moving to Beaumont in a week and looked up this forum hoping to get into some of Hoffners classes and get some good training in. I don't know where I need to start as far as classes are concerned because I know I am not nearly as advanced as alot of you based on what I have read so far in this forum. I am a certifed Handgun, Shotgun, Patrol Rifle Instructor through the NRA Law Enforcement Division and have instructed for the past two years but realize this does not mean jack in the real world. Any help and info would be greatly appreciated.

I know a guy who retired from the Fort Worth Police Department and worked as a firearms insturctor there for years. He said that when Glock first came to the U.S and were trying to get there name on the market in the 80's he and another officer were given a Glock 19 and 60,000 rounds of ammo each to simply test the weapon and report what they thought back to Glock free of charge. They had a broken extractor at 43,000 rounds and a cracked slide at 117,000 rounds but other than that no problems.
After they reported their findings back to Glock they gave each of the officers a new Glock 19 for their testing of the weapon. Sweeeet I asked him "How do you get so luky?" he said "Right place at the right time!" |

Smitty,
Welcome to the crew. The Springfield XD is an excellent fight stopper and rest assured that everyone here is a student. As you review Brian's courses be advised that Elite Pistol training is held at Top Gun the first Wednesday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Brian's Lead Instructor, Cecil Going, runs us through various timed pistol drills so make your way to Houston on Wednesday, August 1st and put some metal down range with us.
Lock and load... |

I ran ballistic calculations using a 230 grain .45 caliber round fired at 200 yards through a 5" barrel. With a beginning elevation of 5.5' and a point of impact of 5.5', the round had a trajectory apex of 23 feet.
Amazing... |

Sorry, just had to do a little cabbage patch there... 23 foot apex you say? Suh-weeet. Not bad for standing, off-hand either huh?
Let me tell you, when you stand there and hit a 6" square plate at 100 yds, 8" round pie plate at 150, and then a steel silhouette at 200 yds, it gives you a whole new confidence in your weapon and your abilities. You guys will have to join us next time, especially to "ring the bell" with the 12 ga slugs from 200!
Let me paint you a picture of 3 Hoffners warriors, proned-out on top of a school bus, perpendicular to the plates 200 yards away. from the left, you have a scoped AR, then a shotgun with ghost-ring sights, then an ACOG scoped AR... taking turns ringing the bell and passing the weapons around to shoot and spot for the guy on the shotgun.
H.ell, I haven't shot a lever-action .30-30 since my childhood, but sitting on top of the bus with my inherited grandfather's old Winchester Model 94, I certainly didn't realize that gun could get a 1st-round hit on that 8" pie plate with simple iron sights either. What an amazing round with some punch, brothers. I think I have a new truck-gun. |

| Choose the right tools for the mission, but the standard gear includes the Wilson Combat CQB .45. or the STI Tactical .45. Both are great shooters, and get the job done. |

I think most warriors that have a little age on them (ok like myself) are and always will be 1911 guys. My favorites are my Colt Stainless Commander and my Kimber Ultra Raptor.

It's common for former military types to carry 1911's or have at least one in their collections.
In a clean air environment, 1911's are excellent, but Glocks seem to be the side arm of choice in the sand box.
For heavy sand conditions, my choice is the .40 caliber, long barrel Glock 35 with Dale Hunnicutt 'magwell', 'reduced grip' and 'abrasive grip' modifications. |
