This post is not for Anti-Gun organizations but more for the casual, uninformed, uninterested,"sophisticated" people that we all encounter from time to time...
As Brian's Code of the Warrior states, 94% of the general population are sheep and that only about 6% or less are the actual protectors of our way of life.
Occasionally,in so called "social gatherings", we Sheepdog types are mocked or slighted for having a Warrior attitude. Sort of the damning with feint praise cr*p ....sooooo.... I thought an open discussion of some useful responses to those barbs might be fun to post here.
Perhaps others on this forum will share the "ridicule stoppers" that have worked for them as well.
Here are some of my favorites -
(Picture a dress up evening around a big dinner table fund raiser type event with four other couples you have never met, all the usual b.s. small talk, etc.)
Everyone has lied about all the Tennis they play or Golf or whatever, lol and it gets around to you and you say that you like to train with and shoot various firearms..pistols,shotguns,rifles. Eyebrows raise... here it comes.
(All replys are said with a polite smile of course.)
"Oh,you carrry a gun? Why? Are you paranoid?
Verbal judo reply from Clint Smith,Thunder Ranch: " No,I have a gun. What do I have to be paranoid about?"
or
"Why do you have a handgun, are you expecting to be robbed?"
My own reply - " I carry a handgun specifically because I am not expecting trouble, but if a problem does happen I know I can at least defend myself and not have someone simply walk up and execute me and my family.
From Clint Smith: If I KNEW I was going to be attacked I would have my rifle or my shotgun. And if I KNEW and had a choice I would have just left the area."

Last but not least... some wife says "I see no reason to have any guns in my house or to ever have them around at all."
My own reply is: "That's fine, but someday when the streets are full of looters and the police are overwhelmed you will really, really wish that your husband was a person like me and I will never, ever want to be a person like him...would you pass the butter please." |

Mike I cant get this smile off my face. You are so right its ridiculous.I run a night club and cater to these types for happy hour functions. Not all but most fit the bill you described. They are all there to be seen and lie about what they do.When a topic of guns come up your comments seem to be very popular.Being a Firearms Instructor myself I love to bring this topic up and see the responses I will get.I just chaulk it up to ignorence.Let them belive what they want and live there lives as sheep.I feel sorry for there children if these people actually breed. The children are innocent and do not have a choice in this life if they are born to sheep or sheepdogs. As a Father I would protect my children at ANY cost!I think they deserve that from me,if not me then who?Its a proactive situation most of the time. But it can become reactive in a blink of an eye.To each there own.I will contiue to train and take care of my family;and who knows,I may have to take care of theirs also. |

Good stuff M.W.
One of my favorites that I use often is....
"Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not after me"
It works on so many levels. LOL
I have been in the same situation having to confess my hobby/life style
thanks for the info |

You should have seen the looks on the faces of the school administrators that attended the John Giduck presentation on Beslan that I was at in July at the Nebraska LE instructor conference. Many of them were really put out that they were made to attend and listen to what happened at the school.
"That would never happen here!"
Just the ones I want in my kid's school.
Who thought it would happen on a day where all of the families of the children in the school celebrate the first day of school by showing up together?
Complacency and denial are as a disease. |

"Oh,you carrry a gun? "
I usually say "Sure, doesn't everybody?" Sometimes you can see the wheels turning in their head as the try to assess why they feel alone and vulnerable. Sometimes they look paranoid trying to make out who might be out to get them, since they don't have one.
Their usual reply is "Well, I don't..." and I immediately ask "Why not?"
"Why do you have a handgun, are you expecting to be robbed?"
Something along these lines are said: "No, if something like that does happen, I just want to stay alive till the police show up. A whole lot can happen from the call in til they arrive."
"I see no reason to have any guns in my house or to ever have them around at all."
I might respond: "That's a viewpoint that lacks perspective, and perpective counts for a whole lot." |
