You just gotta love a hero that kneecaps and gut shoots a terrorist as payback for killing Americans.
Most of the books that I like to read are not carried in stock by Barnes and Noble. This one is. They probably don't realize it is about a red blooded American defeating foreign terrorist.
Takedown is the 3rd or 4th book in a loose series featuring the same hero. You can read them out of order if that sort of thing doesn't bug you.
This book is set in the present and details a fairly believable attack on New York. The “why” is interesting. There is a decent chase scene and a lot of gun handling and shooting. The author appears to be a gun and gadget guy as no one slips a fresh mag into their revolver and the low drag guys seem to love their tactical knives. The hero doesn’t have any super powers and the bad guys and Feds (Oh, that is redundant!) have just the right amount of slimy-ness.
If you like Robert Ludlum’s "Jason Bourne" series then you’ll probably like this one. This series has better and more gun stuff but, unlike Ludlum’s stuff, you know the major plot twists upfront rather than at the end so there is a little less suspense. The character development is not quite as good as Ludlum’s but the story is interesting. |
