A New York Jury Acquits the three officers of the Bell shooting case from more than a year ago. Of course Al Sharpton's Statement about the decision being ludicrous is ludicrous and clearly just an opportunity for for close up camera shots. The truth is that officers made a split decision to live or die and they chose to live. Officers have the right to go home at the end of the day. Perception is real...We do not have to wait until we are shot in the face to defend ourselves.
There will be no celebration for these officers. Double jeapordy only applies to the level of the case. This was a state court case, now you can bet there will be political pressure for federal indictments now. Of course there is the civil law suit as well.
Yesterday the officers were courageously acquited but they have a long road ahead. They have lost their jobs and may still lose their freedom from the federal level, but they are still alive.
You can survive many things but you cannot survive being dead.
One more time, we, the police, have the right to go home at the end of the day...just like any other law biding citizen.
