All:
Just spent 5 days with Ken Elmore of Specialized Armament in his new Basic and Advanced M16/AR-15 Armorer courses at Kent, Washington PD Training facility.
Ken has split from Colt Training for personal and business reasons but it has allowed him to create one heck of a top notch armorer program that I believed to be superior to the former and current Colt Factory Armorer course. Ken still believes and wholly support Colt rifle products. At this time, the courses are limited to LE and Military only.
Basic is a 2.5 day course covering the basics any armorer would need but without delving into minuta that basic armorer's don't need. His manuals are detailed and a major improvement over the older manuals. The advanced course was a nut kicker for the amount of detail you get. With a focus on the burt and auto series guns, you really get to know all the platforms in depth but you get an amazing amount of information in another 2.5 days. In the span of 5 days, I completely (including the sliding buttstock assembly, no barrel teardowns, up to that point though) tore down 8 different rifles and put them back together, diagnosing problems, differences between the various Colt parts, aftermarket parts and the like.
Each course is $450 or both together for $800. You get a detailed manual for both and a wealth of information that you can really use for working with patrol rifles (AR platforms).
Strongly recommended for any LE or military type at the fix-it level looking for a stronger armorer program. I thought I knew enough coming into the course. I was wrong and learned even more. |

Morris... I agree, Ken's classes are a cut above any other armorer's schools out there. He ensures you know what you are doing before you leave with the certificate and t-shirt.....
"It was like that when I got it"
"Hmmm, How hard can it be?"
If you get the chance, take one of his 1911 classes... He's as strongly opinioned there as he is with the Colt Black Rifle. |

Yeah, I'd like to go to it but will have to wait. I just got done paying for the advanced class when the PD would only cover the basic.
And yeah, I got a few of the shirts. Couldn't resist. |
