Running is somthing you do to entirely for self. It is major calorie burning activity. The simple math is burn more calories than you take in and you will burn fat and lose weight, it is no mystery. But running is a powerful thing for the mind. It is a fantastic challenge of the mind. Your mind senses that the body is tired, the legs are telling the mind that they want to stop, but it is the mind that is in control. If the mind insists that the body continue, that the legs keep moving, then the body will will and the legs will take you to the finish line...powerful! Your mind will push you through the pain.
I have said it over and over, your mind will allow you to win or cause you to fail...You decide
In any physical activity you are trainiing your body AND your mind. Push them both. Running is a challenge of self. You will fight like you train so train like you want to fight. Every time I run, it is a fight. My stopwatch is running and I am running against it. Just me, myself, and my stopwatch pushing through the pain...like the fight. The more you sweat in training the less you bleed in the fight.

| Saturday morning, two hours before dawn, it’s already ninety degrees and ninety percent humidity. Doesn’t matter, it’s still nine mile run day. Never before can I remember wanting to stop and walk during a run, but at mile six I hit a wall and could think of nothing else. But quitting is not what I teach and distance running is a good test of your will to endure pain and suffering. Some days the body just doesn’t seem to cooperate, this was one of those days. It just meant that it would be harder, but it would still get done. The mind will allow you to succeed or cause you to fail, your choice. Just keep putting one foot ahead of the other and do not break stride, mind over matter. So badly I wanted to walk but I knew I couldn’t, to do so would be to admit defeat. If I couldn’t finish this little run then there was no sense in pursuing the desire to climb Mt. McKinley, The tallest mountain in North America would be much more punishing. My mind was strong enough, I finished my run and kept my mountain hopes alive. I returned home to find one of my toes a bloody pulp, no time to think about it, time to load up and go teach Tactical Pistol… |
