M.W.,
When you can, send an e-mail with Dale's mobile number. I'll be in the U.S. next month and need a SIG Duracoated.
Will phone you upon arriving Houston.

The FN PS or P 90 certainly does not have the activity and use of the AR platform much less any other so any information is good information. I do not own one but was impressed with their function at the class. With everything else there is give and take, there are so many different calibers and configurations of launchers for them. The 5.7 in my opinion is most at home as a close quarters to 100 yard round. I have not done any balistic testing on the round particularly at distance. Some things are for sure, the rifle functions, its light, easy to shoot, and carries a bunch of bullets.
Lets keep the information coming so there can be some form of user database.

| How does the PS90 compare to the FS2000? Has anyone made a comparison? |

No, I have not fired the FS 2000. The form factor is larger than what I desire. I have spoken to only one person who owns one. His main point was that the FS 2000 is incredibly reliable, specifically in more than a year he has never had a single stoppage, nor has he cleaned it, yet, after more than 5000 rounds. This matches my experience with the PS90. |

| I plan to buy a rifile sometime this year. It will be my first. I like both the AR and the FS2000 styles, so it will be an interesting decision. Eventually I'd like to own both. I like the bullpup design because it fits me well and is eaier to hold. I like the AR because it is so popular that parts and accessories are easily available. |

BigGun,
Select weaponry, accessories and ammunition based on your requirements. For what purpose will this weapon serve you and those you protect?
Civilian AR barrel lengths vary from 16" to 24", barrel rifling varies from 1/6 to 1/10. AR optics vary from iron sights to 1x red dots to long distance scopes. The decision making process is lengthy so visit with Hoff or your go-to weapon instructor for guidance.
The 16" barrel, 5.56mm/.223 caliber AR style platform is light weight, runs high capacity mags and pound-for-pound delivers excellent fire power at CQB to 250 yard distances.
We train Urban and Central Asia operators to use AR's as CQB take-down weapons so our AR's are equipped with butt stocks, heavy barrels, aircraft aluminum rails, optics and suppressors that are CQB specific.
For non-CQB use, my preferred AR style platform is the (16" barrel) SIG 556 SWAT upgraded with Troy front and rear flip up iron sights and an Aimpoint M3 optic mounted by way of a LaRue tactical quick disconnect. The SIG has a 1/7 twist barrel which allows a heavier round (75 grain) to remain stable at longer distances. The SIG is piston operated so it runs cooler than a traditional AR and is easier to clean and maintain.

Thanks for the info, Semper_Fi.
My intended use for a rifle is range training and home protection. I won't make the decision lightly. |

Little Gun:
We should be at Hoff's Tac Rifle II course, June 6-7; if you want to try out the PS90 or the FiveseveN, then you are more than welcome to do so. I also have an FN s/a 12ga , too, but it is set up for bustin' geese, not looters. I do love how well it feeds 2 3/4", 3", or 3 1/2" shells all mixed up and covered with feathers, blood, rice stubble, and kolache crumbs.
I would love to shoot the 2000, if you decide to get one. The "tactical" version shown here seems more open for customization: http://www.fnhusa.com/mil/products/firearms/model.asp?fid=FNF011&gid=FNG006&mid=FNM0030

That is a generous offer, Ragnar. Thank you. You seem to be a fan of FN. I'm not sure I'll be in town on June 6-7, but it is possible. I'll see how it goes.
If I end up with an FS2000, you can surely shoot it. I've got some more pennies to save before I make that call. |

I own 2 FN pistols and you can't stop them
I also own an AR57. I figure if we bug out momma can carry the ar15 and i pack the ar 57. Carrying 200 round in 4 magazines that don't weigh squat is very appealing. This gun groups well to 200 yds. using ss197 ammo. |

I am interested in the FN PS90. I enjoy seeing them in action on Stargate Atlantis.
It's size and ergonomics and magazine capacity are good attributes.
The bull pulp design makes it shorter overall than AR's with the same barrel length.
FN has made this Personal Defense Weapon available to us because they make it in the U.S.A, unlike HK's PDW and others.
The PDW is a new class of weapon. The PS90 is not in the Assault rifle class it is considered a PDW. With out it this class would be filled with pistols.
The full metal jacket ammunition is not available to civilians because it can penetrate Kevlar body armor when fired from the Five Seven pistol.
It is illegal to sell armor piercing pistol ammo to civilians. (a good thing)
If the 5.7 Pistol did not exist we could buy the FMJ ammo for the PS90. (Tactical error for FN)
I like the short reset of the AR trigger. I have heard that the PS90 has a long trigger reset. Like the current AUG that is available.
Is there a way to adjust the trigger? |

Having just shot and cleaned two PS-90s last weekend the trigger is fresh in my mind. I am not a gunsmith, and may not know what I am looking for, but I do not recall any trigger adjustment mechanism.
This weapon is the easiest semi-automatic to field-strip of any I have used, partially because the trigger mechanism is in a self-contained unit slid into the stock, working much like a hot-swap disk drive in a laptop. No springs to shoot out into the dirt, and no rods to fit into any hidden tubes, etc. I am confident I can literally field strip and reassemble the PS-90 with my eyes closed, and I am a retard with such things.
I like the trigger...it seems to be designed to be bomb-proof, and not for an olympic shooter or sniper. Shoot one and make your own decision. We will probably be at Vehicle Gun Fighting in two weeks, if you want to fire one. |
