The below story from a law enforcement officer is another reason that I reccomend single point slings:

"Earlier this year, another patrol officer and I responded to an
armed-robbery call. The single suspect had fled, first on foot, and then in a vehicle.
We spotted a vehicle matching the description and, between the two of us,
performed a classic, high-risk traffic stop.

My M4 was in a copy of the ever-popular Big Sky, overhead rack. The sling
was wadded up alongside the rifle. I unlocked the rifle and pulled it down on
my lap. The sling, of course, came down with it. As the suspect vehicle
pulled over, I grabbed the microphone to update dispatch. In the process,
I
inadvertently pulled the microphone cord up through the sling, and then, not
realizing what I had just done, put the microphone back in its holder.

As I then exited my beat-car, the sling, now tangled in the microphone cord,
refused to permit the rifle to come out of the car with me! I tugged
frantically before I finally figured out what was hanging it up. In the process, I
wasn't much help to my partner! In frustration, I finally dropped
the rifle
and defaulted to my pistol.

Happily, the driver was not our suspect, so the whole incident ended
quickly, and without incident.

However, I learned a critical lesson about not permitting a loose sling to
become ensnared in the furniture, at inconvenient moments! I now keep the
sling neatly folded, and taped to the rifle stock. That way, it will rapidly
deploy when I need it, and not when I don't!"

Again, This LE Sling story is another example of why I strongly reccomend single point slings for my operators. They are clean, simple, less apt to catch on anything or hinder a reload. When the Rifle is in the rack you leave your single point on your body. Simply unhook the rifle. Wear the single point sling as part of your tactical uniform. Time to deploy the rifle? then grab it and hook it in. I always tell my students the next time they take a commercial fight to count how many times the strap of someones bag gets hung up on one of the arm rests while they are boarding, now imagine that being an entry on a situation. Door knobs, hand rails, arm rests, etc. They all have hands that want to pull you to the floor and have your team falling on top of you.

Your post is on the money Hoff.

Three point slings are the most stable slings but they're rarely used by tactical operators or LEO's as they easily get tangled and hung up. Murphy is alive and well with three point slings.

Two point slings are excellent for long distance patrols when the operator is not in the red zone.

The CQB operators we train exclusively use single point slings for the reasons you emphasize in American Defenders training.

Quit Klick and am with White Salmon now. With the new Sheriff, that's a waste of breath, there seems to be a mass exodus occurring, even with some of his people he appointed.

The Chief is pro firearms, so am outfitting the patrol rifles with slings and optics.
Going to armorer schools, teaching more, writing the dept. firearms policy.

Yep, life is good.

So with all that, give me some choices of a goof proof, or should I say Cop proof sling. One that doesn't need a hand on the rifle all the time, one that can snug up for hands on type application.........compliant cuffing, escorting etc.

Whatcha all think?
