Over the years as I've been asked to put on "Defensive Pistol" classes, that term has been getting to me a bit.

It may all be semantics , you know tomato/tomoto kinda thing right? But I'm not so sure. I think there's a mind set there that reeks of being a sheep, and not the sheepdog.

Those who know me, realize I'm no politician, and not into the politically correct thing.

So on with the discussion......

Examples;
1) Someone breaks into your house, and they're obviously not there to help you install your new kitchen cabinets.......you are the hunted, but now the hunted becomes the hunter, and you turn offensive.

2) Walking back to your car from a store, you see a few shady looking characters heading your way, shouting things at you, and they're not saying things that would welcome you to the community..........again the hunted becomes the hunter.

In this next example, would be the only thing I could think of that would put someone on the defensive, but then it turns offensive real quick.

3) Again you're in the parking lot like above, but now they pop up right near you from behind other cars. Initially you're set back on your heels, but then your training sets in, and again the hunter becomes the hunted.

Wichaka There is nothing but truth in your words! We go from the hunted to the HUNTER in the scenarios you described as well as a million other ones. I belive the whole " Defensive " is just a legality. If it were OFFENSIVE, then we would be a bunch of Vigilanties LOOKING for trouble! You know " them GUN LOVERS looking to kill someone " as opposed to stopping the treat. You know as well as I that our training dictates awareness of situations prior to it happening if at all humanly possiable. The defensive will turn offensive in the blink of an eye. I will stop the treat at any cost at that given moment in time. What happens, happens. The end result is not mine to decide,But I will defenitaly be involved in the decision process That got me to that point, ALIVE! We know what we teach and how we teach it. We know what we need to do to take care of a situation at any given time.The word DEFENSIVE is just for all those who are sheep and will look to us or someone else to help them.Dont lose any sleep over it my freind! Kinda like "the best defense is a strong offense" in a life or death situation.

Excellent point Wichaka and I agree fully with Demon's statement as sheepdogs/leaders remain ready, willing and able to turn a defensive situation into an offensive situation to stop the threat.

As Hoff teaches, if we can escape and evade the threat then we do so, however, if the threat can not be avoided then our objective is to quickly and completely "neutralize" the threat.

I agree. Defensive talk is to satisfy legal matters. The legal things are important, but don't matter if we lose the fight and die. If we are to succeed in stopping a deadly threat, we have to be offensive.
