After performing a 200 yard 'deliverable energy test' on a stock Springfield M1911-A1, I have a higher degree of respect for the inventors, and the ongoing legacy, of the 1911. 200 yard test details can be found in this forum under 'Pistol Fighting'.

Shooting a pistol out to 200 yards just fascinates me,Semper.
(I want to take Phil's "2 to 200" class out at Impactzone when it comes around again http://theimpactzone.us/index.php?js=1 )
Is that only possible consistently with the .45 cal round?

I once owned the Berretta 96 .40 cal Border Marshall. It was specfically designed for the U.S. Border Patrol and the need back in 1999 for the officers to be able to reach out 150 yards or more to return fire on potshots from Mexico. At least that was the main selling point.
I liked it but it was heavy and I went to the Glock later.

Just was wondering how the .40 cal round might do at 200 yards.
Any idea?

I'm primarily a .40 cal shooter as well and have tested 180 grain .40 caliber FMJ rounds out to 100 yards. Just ran some quick 200 yard numbers on the 180 grain .40 cal round and it should produce about 90 - 100 ft. lbs. of impact at 200 yards....better than nothing.

It's the power of the 230 grain .45 caliber round at 200 yards that's impressive as 200 ft. lbs. of energy can be lethal.

Phil also makes 200 yard hits with 12 gauge slugs which are 1 ounce (1,000 grain) projectiles.

Makes us look at these weapons differently...
