I recently spent 12 days in Peru and used the opportunity to live out of and test my American Defenders Backpack. From the Amazon to the Andes it worked real well. I started with the Eagle Industries Molle Pack, attached two of the same horizontal utility packs that we mount on the back of the AD vest (I would have attached three but only had two at the time). I attached one Gas Mask Pouch wich was big enough to hold my cold waether and rain gear. One small vertical pouch was mounted next to my IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit). Everything had its assigned place and maintaining that discipline made the pack work really well. The fact that it fit in the aircraft overhead as carry-on was an added, though planned, bonus.

We will be addressing the American Defenders Pack in the comming sessions as we finish gearing up the AD Load Vest

Awesome pic!

Every time I fly I end up pulling non PC stuff out. I usually carry a tough but every day looking back pack as I like to travel low profile. The molle packs would definitely allow one to pack all the non PC stuff in one’s checked luggage and then to quickly attach them to the back pack when on the ground. Still, I miss the good ol’ times when I used to be allowed to carry my Leatherman on board the plane.

Any guess what your airline friendly pack weighs and do you add any gear back to your pack once on the ground?

The pack weighed in at about 25 lbs, not bad, easy to carry. I had everything attached already and compared it to a standard carry-on so I knew it would work. You could definately have molle bags in your check bag and attach them later if needed.
