I've heard talk of making 200 yard shots with 1911's which got me to thinking "How much energy can a 230 grain .45 round deliver at 200 yards when fired through a 5" barrel with a standard factory powder load?" Time to break out the pressure plate and go to the ranch.

Set up the test gear, got hits at 50 yards and started backing away while making trajectory shots about every ten yards.

Past 160 yards it seemed like I was just lobbing rounds and I doubted the 1911's effectiveness at 200 yards. At the 200 yard mark we fired up the pressure plate and were all BLOWN AWAY when the 230 grain projectiles repeatedly delivered 205-211 ft. lbs. of energy on the plate! We re-zeroed the test equipment and got the same results during the second round of testing!

Over 200 ft. lbs. of energy at 200 yards...

I've carried 1911's since 1972 and was not aware of the 1911's long distance power until performing this 200 yard test. There's the data folks and I now look at the 1911 as much more than a 0-50 yard weapon.

Demon, there's plenty of sitting room on the roof of that bus... we just go out there and make it happen! Matter of fact, we need to go out there - my gun's feeling neglected
