I gotta tell you that while listening to the AM on the way to Amite Lousiana I heard some pretty interesting (weird) radio but I found some warriors ready to kick butt on the range. I was treated and fed like royalty by the host Herb and wife Beverly, whew, good eating!
This group of shooters were just as outstanding. One FBI agent, two deputies of the local Parish (one recently back from Afganistan service), and a bunch of Citizen Warriors with great attitudes and skills that really racheted up over the two day class, including Ann, a compact size lady that ruled her shotgun (Big Fight, Little Package). Like usual I brought great weather with me and we had a great shoot-em-up time.
This is a group that I am really looking forward to working with some more!
Many lessons were learned such as check your magazine end cap...often. When we shoot this much ammunition, rapid fire, in these conditions we learn much about equipment and self. There was no quit in this group, if a drill went wrong they fought through it to conclusion. Train like the fight because you will fight like you train, we trained to win...with a vengeance. Great job guys, see you next time.

Remington 870 quick dissassembly takes place when the magazine end cap or mag extension works loose during high round count shooting. It can work loose and let go during shooting. You will know because parts fly every where, bolt, barrel, magazine spring, follower. Usually we have a tough time finding the magazine spring, even though its three feet long, but this time we found it and the follower twenty yards behind the shooter.
It's typical under a high concentration of fire to see guns start comming apart particularly with accessories like extension tubes that do not have the dimple for ratcheting. A battle clamp will help hold it in place. Side saddles will fly off or dangle as well.
Bottom line, Equipment. We must be familiar with our equipment and training under the conditions that we train with Hoffners WILL test your equipment so that you can learn from it. Know your equipment and check it regularly.
Equipment, body, mind!

I have to stop buying guns and start buying classes!
I learned a lot and identified some short comings with my set up after that work out.
It was an opportunity for me to practice clearing a few FTE among other things.
The class was the right size, well organized and a lot of fun.
Thanks to you Brian and thanks Herb also for all he did.
My neighbors are going to learn to hate the Hoffner drill....but they are welcome to come over and give it a try.
Thank You. |

Jay,
Take Hoffner’s Basic Pistol and then drive over and join us for American Defenders once a quarter. You will get to put all your skills into use during one busy day. Your gear will get as much of a work out as you will. The first couple of sessions I was changing things around like crazy because what I THOUGHT would work based on hearsay and “coolness”, DIDN”T.
Driving to Houston four times a year for a Saturday 9 AM to 3 PM gear-mind-body workout is a heck of a deal. We shoot pistols, carbines and shotguns. There is no way will you stay tuned up if you take a class only once a year. Take the classes, learn the skills and then come put them into action! You won’t believe the stuff we are learning at American Defenders. |

That is my 870 laying there in pieces. Great advice Hoff to check tightness, I had no idea a gun could fall apart so fast. One minute shooting, next I rack the slide and have it in one hand, stock in the other and parts flying everywhere in between! Definitely best to learn this in training.
Speaking of learning. This shotgun class taught me tons. I have had lots of pistol and rifle training but no shotgun. This class taught me the basics on up to what I need to know to start to be effective with it. Next comes practice.
One of the best classes I've ever had. Thanks Brian! |

Thanks Kieth. Just trying to make this country, our country, stronger one shooter, one American at a time. Thanks for being part of it. We are just getting started, we are the head of the spear, stay with it and lets train again soon.
