This one from Mark, January 2008:
Brian,
I enjoyed the Elite Team session thoroughly. Cecil is
highly skilled and was accommodating of my (now
former) rookie status in the session, without much of
a drag on the regulars. He thankfully reminded me of
a few things I did not keep in the tool bag (skills
and mindset) from your SoSu course last year. Two
things made an immediate difference once
re-implemented:
#1 - my stance was not aggressive enough (forward cant
of my torso) and most importantly, I had not dug in my
toes on the first 6 shot hammer. Cecil gave me a 2nd
chance after pointing it out to me and the rest of the
crew. Made a HUGE difference and I could feel it.
VERY COOL!
#2 - my "compressed ready" position was not as high as
it needed to be at first (i.e. my sights we not "on").
Once Cecil got feedback to me on that, it was a
smooth push of the arms out to the trigger pull and
time was conserved.
You have a fine crew! I got to meet Michelle, who was
there with her husband. He said she is Hoffners
first female instructor. Great to have her on board,
huh?
On a lighter note, I had a SQUIB round (first ever in
any gun of any caliber for me). At least it was on my
LAST mag with five minutes left in the session. Dang
glad that was NOT in my carry gun!!! I keep my ammo
fresh and take fine care of my weapons, but was not
expecting that malfunction. I could not clear it
using any reload technique, nor did the tap-rack-bang
trick work. Cecil properly got the shell casing
ejected and we did a field strip to confirm my
Springer XD was safe and what the problem was.
I'll be back for another session in Feb.
Kind Regards,
- Mark E. |
