Recently, in Houston, a woman was abducted by knife point, stuffed in a cars trunk and driven away. Luckily the woman had her cell phone to report her abduction to 911 but because most phones do not have GPS the police had no way of knowing her location or where she was going. Luckily, again, the abductor parked the car and she was able to get the trunk open and escape. If the predator had driven to a remote location he could have done whatever he wanted with the woman. We cannot put our lives and our future in the hands of a criminal. So what can we do? First lets look at the Hoffners Criteria for winning. Equipment is #1. Do not leave home without your PISTOL (CHL holders), your KNIFE, a good FLASHLIGHT, and of course your CELLPHONE. If you leave home without this basic equipment, you have decided to be the sheep that day and not the sheepdog. If you are stuffed in a predators trunk without a flashlight use your cellphone light but it’s not very bright (be sure to charge it every night). Lets get to work in the trunk. Most modern cars have plastic tail light assemblies that can be easily removed when you can see what your doing. Remember your knife makes a good pry tool. Once the inner assembly is removed break the tail light lens out with your knife. Position yourself so you can see out the hole. Look for street names, numbers, identifying features, anything to help the dispatcher to locate your position and direction of travel. Stay on line with the dispatcher until the police arrive and you are safe. If you do not have a cell phone stick your hand and arm out of the hole and frantically wave for attention. Keep looking as well as you should be able to alert someone behind you. Hopefully they will call the police without alerting the driver. In any case have your gun or knife ready if you are not absolutely sure it is the police opening the trunk. By the way, do you have equipment in your own trunk incase your car is used for the crime? When was the last time you conducted family training to make sure everyone knows how to open the trunk from the inside? You must have a plan (or two), and the will and composure to make it work. Remember you don’t wake up in the morning and decide if you are going to be attacked that day. The predator decides. What YOU must do is prepare regardless. You must have the equipment, the will, and the training. You have to know what to do. I am real excited about Hoffners training for the family.
