Looking for a charging handle latch for LE duty use, that won't get caught on other gear/clothes. What do you out there use, if anything?

I have tried the "Badger Ordinance" version as sold by Brownell's and found it to be a magnet for other gear and the sling. I swithched back to the standard AR charging handle after about a month of fighting with the extended "tactical" latch.

If you find a good solution, let me know.

I haven't found one.....that's the problem. Me thinks in the end, I'll be sticking with the standard latch.

In my personal experiences I have found the standard charging handle works best for me.I have known many an Operator and or Instructor that have tried many different types, but in the end simplicity seems to be the way to go. Try something if you are not sure but in the end I think you will go back to the original.I have two boxes filled with "experimental" parts. You dont know until you try.My personal weapons have seen many looks until I finally found the combinations that worked best for me. The topic came up in the AR Armorer's class with Ken Elmore this spring in Kent, WA. I doubt there is anyone out there with more knowledge of the system than him and he admitted that he usually runs stock.

I found the tac latches of various flavors hung up. Even with gas in the eye, stock works just fine.

Hoping to take the class from Elmore at WSLEFIA in Yakima next month.

Anyway, sounds like the tac latches are for gamers, and not for serious users.

Steve, I highly recommend his courses, especially now that he isn't affiliated with Colt proper. I did both the basic and advanced. Learned a huge amount, especially about auto guns.

Went thru his class when he was with Colt many years ago. So I figure it would be worth it.

Will have to keep an eye out for when his Advanced class comes around here.

Steel charging handle made by Panther DPMS. Aluminum charging handle + Tac Latch = broken charging handle when you have a stuck case.
