I have a question for anyone, student/instructor, that has taken a Hoffner's pistol 1 course.

What is the minimum requirement for the pistol used or brought?

Meaning, nothing smaller than 9mm or which type of pistol is required or disqualified, meaning no Makarov's or other's like it (surplus)? Question

Just my opinion, if you're going to spend the money, time and effort to go to a class, make sure you have a pistol from a reputable manufacturer with functioning magazines that will make it through the class. Caliber matters, I'd say no less than 9mm. (I've never used anything smaller in a class setting.)More importantly, make it one you'd trust with your life, the lives of your loved ones and those around you. Like I said, just my opinion, everyone's got one. I could be wrong.

I agree scott I was just curious. My own personal choice is my CZ 75b but I also have a Sig 220 (ammo cost preclude me from using it tho!). Razz
Also a Sig p6 should be here soon enuff, but as a carry gun I sometimes bring a Makarov on short trips and mostly I bring a dead on reliable CZ 52 when I go to Huntsville or Dallas for family outings.

Good post battlrattl and ScottM is on the money.

Before choosing and training with any weapon, ask yourself if you'd stake your life, the safety of your family or the lives of unarmed civilians on the weapon, ammunition and gear that sits before you?

We see Makarovs worldwide, some models are OK, others aren't. I'd personally steer you toward your Sig or CZ, a Glock or a professional grade 1911.

My preference is a .40 caliber Glock 22 followed by the Springfield 1911 both with Hoffner holsters and mag holders for executive dress and trips to the field.

2 - 200 yard training in Houston has taught me and many others the overall effectiveness of the 1911 and I view the 1911 as the most versatile sidearm.

Spending premium $ for premium carry ammunition and professional gear is a wise investment as you don't know when your life and the lives of others will depend on your mindset and training when confronting a BG, your weapon, ammunition and gear.
