Maybe you should have resisted. I have not read any of the Potter books but something tells me they would not be apropos. The Lord of the Rings on the other hand…those Hobbits did not ask for war but managed it quite well. It is said that JRR Tolkien modeled the trilogy after Hitler and WWII

I’ve read all the Potter books (really I listened to the audio version), and I think you could make a very strong case that the series is pro conceal carry and right to self defense. Everyone goes to school and must graduate to carry a wand. In the potter world you can kill another with only your wand and the proper word, so everyone who graduates carries a weapon that can deal death in a word and a hand motion. The potter series as also very against blindy following of charismatic leaders. (Voldemort) Harry never stops fighting for what is right even when the government itself comes after him. As the government in Harry's world becomes corrupt, they put a stop to all self defense classes. Harry organizes secret "Defense against the Dark Arts" classes for all the students that are brave enough to defy authority. If I ever have kids they WILL be reading this series.
These children’s books might seem silly at first glance, but I recommend everyone take a second look. In my opinion this series teaches great lessons about self sacrifice and defending yourself and your beliefs in what is right at all cost.
Also, Rowling is a great author and all the books are very compelling once you get started.....you might surprise yourself and actually enjoy it. |

Unfortunately with this series the books are much better than the movies.
Fortunately the audio books are unabridged and the reader, Jim Dale, is the best storyteller I have ever listened to.
Kept me awake on many a late night long drive. |

That reminds of the Dr Suess story "Green Eggs and Ham"
The story is told wholly through quotes and images. There is no internal dialogue and no additional narrative analysis.
There are two main characters: The first is unnamed, and is morose and irritable. The second is named Sam, and he is filled with energy and enthusiasm.
The plot revolves around Sam's efforts to get his friend to try a dish known as "Green eggs and ham". The friend refuses to taste the dish, and only wants to be left in peace. Sam goes through an assortment of locations (house, car, tree) and dining partners (fox, goat, mouse) trying to persuade his friend to eat, but without success.
The triumphant conclusion of Seuss's tale occurs when Sam's pal, standing in shallow water after a boat sinks, surrounded by various people and beasts, finally agrees to try the delicacy and pronounces it quite tasty.
Now, If Sam had a carry license, and thought the eggs were poisoned (they were green) and the un-named one as a threat, it might have sounded something like this
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.
BANG !!!
I dont know,,, just something to think about. |
