Quick update: all I had was some dirty/high flash S&B and HSM in the 55gn flavor. With a Samson front and ARMS rear, and from a seated bench rest position, I still managed a decent 25 yard group of a 1/2 US dollar coin size group. Have really come to enjoy the rifle, just over 1K of rounds through it. Oh yes, rang 300 hard rounds through it. No, nada, zero, cleaning or choking.
I have a 100 yard range I will be at next month so I'll run some 69-75gn loads to see how it does. |

| Morris... Try the folks at Urban ERT. http://www.urbanertslings.com/thpotasl.html They have been working with CQB professional for a while and have a product I find woks well without a bunch of extra bits&bobs hanging around, required to fit or in the circular file. Comfortable for longer hikes while still being functional. I've had some slippage with their prussik slide release tab, but it has been minimal for all practical purposes and compared to competitors products. They have a sling already set up for the 55x series. |

I have another couple of "patrol rifle" classes through this rifle and have not yet cleaned it or been forced to change the setting on the gas plug... I am fast approaching 3K worth of round through it and it's still perking along like day one..... accuracy has not degraded either.
Will keep you posted as I continue.

I've cycled approx. 3,000 rounds through the SIG 556 SWAT over the past year and it's performed perfectly. It's been cleaned and lubed after every run but the 556's, as Tac mentions, are known for dependably cycling thousands of rounds without cleaning.
The SIG 556 bolt carrier assembly is highest quality and stout and the only modification I've made to the weapon is to upgrade to Troy folding sights, front and rear. |

| I am privy to an upgraded gas block that will likely include rails for light mounting to either side so the handguards can stay intact. We'll see what comes from that. |

Quick update:
Got the EOTech 512.A65 mounted and locked to the rail. It co-witnesses perfectly inside the Samson front folding sight. It's a spot on setup. Ran more rounds through the Commando. All I had was 25 yards but from a seated supported position with the EOTech, US quarter sized groups with 60gn Hornady TAP.
Great rifle. |

Morris, can you detail your BUIS set up? I have the factory front sight and a DPMS rear and the front sight is way too tall. I looked hard at a quad-rail handguard that ran all the way back to the rear creating one solid rail on top from the rear sight to the fron sight, sold by SOG armory ($400!!!) in order to be able to mount a front and rear BUIS that were at the same hight, but I decided against it due to cost and due to not wanting to have to remove my optics to take the handguards/quad rail off of the gun.
I am still looking for a simpler (cheaper) solution.

I'm running an ARMS 40LSP on the rear with a Samson 556 flip front. The alignment is correct for height. The challenge in using the factory front with any AR style rear is that the factory front is slightly shorter, causing the rifle to shoot high. If you want to use the factory folder, there are a couple of places selling rotating hood (HK style) that are correct on the 556 rail and with the factory front.
I just found it easier to run the ARMS/SAMSON combo. The SAMSON can be purchased to dovetail into the slot to replace the factory front. Be forewarned! It's a very tight fit so you will need to tap it in with a brass punch or similar.
The cost of a rail system has kept me away from it. Also, it's impossible to remove the gas tube on a rail system like the well built SAMSON.
I keep mine in a "classic" profile with that combo. On a side note, I'm running an EOTech 516.A65 directly on the rail. The donut fits perfectly inside the globe of the Samson, making for a direct co-witness).
Hope that helps. I can take photos and e-mail them to you. |
