A friend of mine sent me a link to a video on Military.com.

Angle of Incidence = Angle of Ricochet?

Shocked

A good reminder about knowing what's downrange and knowing how your rounds will interact with it.

Ok, I had to watch this one 3 times to get the full effect. My reactions were:

1) [Zing! Whap!] - Cecil: "oh my gaawwwddd"

2) [Zing! Whap!] - Cecil: laughing his ass off

3) [Zing! Whap!] - Cecil: still laughing his ass off about to pee himself, calling Tammy into the War Room to watch this a 4th and 5th time

David, did you hear the twang of the round hitting the steel target he was shooting at before it bounced back? Brilliant! But I love the guy at the end best, "nope! no more iron!"

I didn't hear the iron. I thought it just ricocheted off a rock...

Yeah, I loved the accents.

"That's the last one of those."

"Wheear not doin' that no more."

Hello, McFly!! Whose bright idea was it to shoot downrange into some igneous rocks with a .50? Doh!

That was one very, very lucky shooter.

This video illustrates why metal targets and metal target frames should be fabricated in a manner that directs projectiles downward upon target impact.

We fabricate steel targets and frames with a 'forward leaning' 20 degree offset so you still hear a healthy ding at long distances while greatly reducing the odds of ricochet injuries. Couple a target offset of 20 degrees with a projectile's trajectory offset of 5 degrees and the projectile-to-target 'angle of attack' is 25 degrees.

.50 caliber BMG (Browning Machine Gun) projectiles range from 500 to 950 grains in weight so this shooter was indeed fortunate.

What are the odds of that???? I mean...WoW. Not even a direct ricochet, it hit the ground before bouncing back to hit the shooter. Bad karma indeed...
