|
|
Anybody out there have any experience with one of the P.O.F./Bushmaster rifles that uses an "op-rod" instead of direct blow back gas system?
I am looking at them for a possible replacement system for my departments patrol rifle program.
I have heard that they are cleaner, more reliable, less prone to fouling and have a slightly slower cyclic rate during full auto fire (if so equiped on a class III lower).
Anybody with any experience with this system/these model guns, please sound off.
Thanks,

I don't know about that specific system Tac,only thing I have heard from dealers at the gun shows is that they think the newer Bushmasters are not as good quality construction as they were in the past.
Maybe ask around somebody you trust on that particular point.
Would hate to see an officer's weapon cr*p out on him or her when needed most. |

We need to do another Rifle Course in Goldendale Washington for training AND rifle testing. 1000 rounds in that range silt puts thr true test to any rifle system. I have not tested that rifle but I am a believer in Bushmaster Rifles with the exception of the polycarbonate lower.

Tac,
In the August 2007 edition of Guns & Ammo "Book of the AR-15" there is an article on the Lewis Machine & Tool 5.56 piston operated upper that you may be interested in.
The article begins on page 136 and covers the development, testing and features of the LM&T 5.56 piston system. It appears this sytem is in the field with LE and DOD.

I shot it out at the Shot Show Writers Range day earlier this year. Seemed to be a nice rifle.

Fired the POF next to the Lewis Machine and Tool at the IALEFI Conference in Reno - The POF has a lot of muzzle climb, I guess due to the additional mass of the op rod, etc. The LMT felt like a regular AR.
