Being threatened by "unarmed" people can be readily articulated as being in fear of deadly threat...

Excellent point,DarthReed...fists are often the thugs attack of choice simply because in their minds they can claim they were not armed. Not true, physical size, weight, age, training all are factors in the use of fists for assaults and intimidation.
"Give me your money,or I'll break your jaw" will get your attention.

It has been years since I received my Black Belt and at 51 my skills are not at all what they once were. I have however, maintained my punch defense techniques using handweights simply because a bad guy can throw a knockout punch far faster than I can deploy any weapon. If he gets close enough and I don't get something up to dodge, block, redirect that first sucker punch I am in deep trouble. ( I am sure Brian teaches punch defenses in his SOSU classes )
Unconcious, even the best sheepdog is useless.

This vid shows graphically this idea...the sad part is that this victim admitted that he knew the guy was there but obviously he did not have the knowledge of how to protect himself -

I have by FAR used my hands to settle most of the situations presented to me.My pistol or knives have been in a very small minority in defensive situations. But its always good to know they are there and can be put to use effectivly if the situation requires so. Twisted Evil
