Ordered a couple cases of Menu C rats from MREDepot.com this week, Just In Case® (no pun intended) to be put in the bug out boxes to be loaded into the truck with the spare cases of .223 on Election Night®. (Mostly kidding!)
We'll do a family taste test of some random entrees when they arrive and report back.
It's amazing how much one day of food for a family of five can weigh... Even rationing @ two-a-day for minimal on-the-move calorie intake, 5 cases of 12 each will last less than a week for ~125 pounds of MRE! And that's not counting water requirements at all.
I made the selection of Menu C rats based on the following: Buying Civilian MREs. The decision points for me were primarily based on calorie content, spoon, variety of menu, manufacture date (for maximum shelf life) and bias of the author. There are other varieties that are cheaper, but cost didn't enter the equation for something I expect to shelve for a long time. Just sharing in case that helps somebody else...
If you've got other info and/or contrary input, I'd love to hear it. |
