I took Rifle I this weekend (great class, btw), and Brian was talking about doing pistol drills on Wednesday nights at Top Gun, 7-9. My wife (who took Pistol I earlier this year) and I are making plans to come this week, but I'm not sure what this is all about. Can I get a little basic info on how this works, how much ammo/mags to bring, holster, etc.? Is pistol I a pre-req, or will Rifle I suffice until I can get pistol I? Also, what exactly is the "Elite Team"?
Thanks,
Jason |

Howdy Jason and welcome to the forum. Glad to see you and your wife are getting in the arena. I can answer a couple of your questions, but I refer these two to Hoff:
a) "Is pistol I a pre-req, or will Rifle I suffice until I can get pistol I?"
b) "Also, what exactly is the "Elite Team"?"
Congrats on taking Rifle I this past weekend, Hoo-Yah! Yes, from 7-9pm @ Top Gun, we host Elite Team. A little about E.T.: it is a series of 10 separate & practical drills that hone your gun safety and handling skills, accuracy and speed. All shooters are on the firing line but each shooter shoots individually against himself with a timer. Each drill has a "shoot-for" passing time and all shots fired must be within the designated area. The goal is to pass each drill sequentially through all 10.
Needed items are:
1) a functioning pistol (auto is preferred, as the drills are based around an automatic and not revolvers)
2) you'll want a minimum of 3 mags per shooter (I'd bring all that you have)
3) min. 100 rds per shooter
4) a strong-side holster (no small-of-the-back, cross-draw nor shoulder holsters allowed for safety reasons)
5) you don't HAVE to use mag pouches, but you certainly will want to
6) and of course hearing and eye protection will be worn the whole time you are inside the indoor range
7) I put this last because most importantly, bring a great attitude! This will be after a long, possibly frustrating, day and you may be tired and lethargic physically and mentally but we stress safety above everything else. The upside is that you will be around other like-minded shooters with contagious warrior attitudes who are there to train and a nice consolation is the camaraderie.
We have shooters of all levels shooting these drills so stop worrying about potential embarrassment or anxiety. Like IDPA, IPSC and other shooting competitions, everyone was a noobie at some point, we ALL were. That said, this is not competition against others, but more individual. Yes, there are a couple advanced shooters that feed on the direct competition with each other, but I've found that most of our shooters do better when they focus on themselves. This is about you and improving *your* shooting skills, accuracy and speed.
Looking forward to seeing you there! |

Jason,
Be sure to bring your wife so mine won't be the only girl there. |

New question was posed: "Can we pay when we get there?"
A: of course you can! $25.00 per shooter / $20.00 for those who have qualified and made Elite Team |

Is the July 2, 2008 class on the books for Top Gun this Wednesday?

This from Chris who shot Elite Pistol Drills last night at Top Gun
Brian,
My first time at Top Gun for Elite…it’s been awhile since I have been around Cecil…he did an outstanding job of leading the group of five shooters. Nice control of the line, strong safety focus, good energy and instruction suggestions. He along with two other shooters gave me some good pointers to improve my performance. I have a pretty good ways to go to qualify but it will be fun working toward the goal. Great value for $35…more of your students should participate. Also, Elite delivers a great way to keep skills up that have been learned in TAC I and II.
See you soon,
Chris |

Glad to hear Cecil is still doing an outstanding job at the Elite session. I have been there with him leading the group and he is top notch.
Last week Becky and I went to the Friday Elite class at Shilo and we had Rudy Z. as the leader. Lee and Andy were also there and we had a great session.
The next day we trained in Victoria with a group of Hoffner students and instructors. We demonstrated some of the skills Rudy taught us (giving credit to Rudy and the class), and time to first shot from close retention and accuracy with multiple targets was impressive for the group.
I have been away from the Elite classes a while, but realized last Friday what I was missing.
I wonder if the “Elite” title scares some folks away. I was there when the latest two Elite members (R. Dunlap and M. Kuhn) were qualifying. I admit it was intimidating to see how well they performed relative to my skills.
Hate that I had to miss Wednesday. But I will be at Shilo Friday, hopefully with a couple of the Victoria clan who are in town. And plan to be at T.G on first Wednesdays of the month.
Don't miss these classes if you want to improve your skills.

I see that Top Gun has re-opened. Are the Elite classes back on at Top Gun now? If so, what is the time again...?
TIA |

Elite training has remained at the Shiloh Tactical Shooting Range each Friday 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Excellent training for men and women who wish to improve their "real world" defensive pistol skills...high value training...Elite Instructors John and Rudy are best in class.

Thanks, Bob...
I was hoping that things were back on at Top Gun since I live in Sugar Land. Shiloh is a good 45 min. to an hour drive one way for me. I can usually get to TG in about 20 min.
I am currently out of work and acting as the sole care-giver for my 90 yr. old mother-in-law so I have to carefully schedule my time accordingly so as to not be gone too long at any given time.
It makes getting out to the range a bit difficult presently.
Thanks again...
Blessings. |

So, what would it take to get the Elite Team training back at Top Gun or perhaps even at Memorial Shooting Center?
