In search of the worlds best Steak, a never ending journey
One of the most pleasing things a warrior can enjoy is that truly special steak. For me its got to be pink and tender, flavorful, thick, juicy, served with a nice presentation in a good atmosphere.
I devote my life to many worthy causes not in the least my quest for the perfect steak and sharing my findings with my fellow Warriors. I look forward to the day that the table is surrounded by many of you as we dine.
Where have you found YOUR favorites?
Here are some worthy finds:
Il Latini (The Latin) Florence, Italy
A trip to florence would be incomplete without a trip to the Ufizi but more importantly a steak at Il Latini. As you enter you are welcomed by the head of a pig sitting atop the bar. You sit at a long table with strangers that soon become friends. Bottles of table wine line the tables and all pour from the closest bottle. You order your meat. Most couples choose the Steak for one for two (split the Steak Florentine). For me it's the steak for one for one, Hooyah! Hanging of the ends of my plate, it was as delicious as it was huge. There is no need for a menu. The waiter will bring what he and the chef thinks you should have, plate, after plate, after plate, all a delicious adventure. The dessert is no differant. At the end of it all the waiter will scratch the amount he thinks you should pay on a piece of paper. For Sara and I it was about 70 euros, a more than fair price.

Tre Vigne (Three Vines) Napa CaliforniaThis restaurant, beautiful inside and out, serves up the best darn Beef Short Rib I have ever had. Looking like it should be served to Fred Flinstone it is large, tall, and wonderful. The beef is so tender that it falls off the bone and melts in your mouth bursting with incredible flavor. It was so good I can't remeber what I had with it, except of course a Napa Valley Cabernet that you just cant beat. It was a great place to dine with my beautiful wife and sister, and my brother in law, himself a cop who really enjoys a good steak. Clyde had the shortrib too, and yes, enjoyed it as much as I.

The Big Texan, Amarillo Texas
F words adequately describe the Big Texan, Fun, Fulfilling, Fantastic! This place looks, tastes, and sounds like Texas. Line with antlered topped trophies the walls of restaurant invite you to have a great time. A cowboy quartet travels from table to table pickin and singin. My steak was juicy and flavorful though I did not attempt the famous 72 ounce steak that the Big Texan is known for. All in all its more than a good steak, the Big Texan is a big buch of fun.

What DID NOT make the list:
a plate of Guinea Pig, Cusco PeruCusco is a town Ican really hang out in, and when in Rome... Guinea Pig is a Cusco tradition. High in the mountains of peru Cusco has much to offer including big plates of little critters considered a delicacy. Certain huts are virtually Guinea Pig farms with the floor of the hut litterally crawling with tomorrows dinner. They are nuch cuter than they are fulfilling. The restaurant was nice and very modern. A full wall of glass allowed us to watch the locals go by. My lttle steak arrived fried and cringing, like he had been dropped into the pot knowing what fate was coming. It takes a little bit of work to nibble off every little piece of meat from the frail little bones but I got it done...and was still hungary. Had to do it, glad I did, perhaps the Alpaca next time.
The Towncathedral has a famous rendition of "The Last Supper" where you can see Jesus and the Apostles dining on...you guessed it, Guinea Pig. |
