Ruger makes a nice revolver. The Ruger GP100 for full size use and the SP101 in J-frame size. I gave my dad an SP101 years ago and when he passed after a valient fight against CLL Lukemia I now have it back and it is a treasured piece.

I've owned both and both are great. My wife's first self defense firearm was the SP 101 .357 and she really likes it, but shoots only .38 ammo in it. She won't let me sell it!

The GP 100 is tough as nails, it's probably my favorite "big" revolver. I had one of my funniest firearms experiences with it: I bought a bunch of relaoded .38 from a retired forest ranger, and I swear he forgot to put powder in some of it...one of the bullets stopped half way out the front of the barrel!!

It's a good thing that you recognized the squib load. If you would have fired again somthing bad would have happened. At best your gun could have been in ruin, at worst backpressure could blown the gun aprt and sent shrapnel flying. In your case all you had to do was remove the bullet verify the bore clear and the gun is good to go. Then, of course, get rid of the defective reloads. I am extremely cautious with reloads but squibs have happened with factory ammo as well. Knowledge and awareness is the key.
As for seeling the SP101, I'm with your wife, don't sell it. Of course my SOP is not to sell any guns and to aquire more.
