Hey Team,
I would appreciate some words of wisdom on what is legal and what is not in terms of a civilian carrying a knife. For example,
--Is there a legal limit on the length of a folding knife blade that can be carried in public?
--Is it legal to carry a fixed-blade concealed (i.e. under a coat or shirt)?
--Any legal restrictions on where a person can go while carrying a knife, folding or fixed (i.e government offices, bars/clubs, etc.)?
--Would a fixed-blade knife or even a large folding knife in your car glovebox or under your seat be considered a concealed weapon if located by law enforcement?
One warrior, all weapons! For myself, I foresee the knife to be the greatest challenge to learn.
Brian, looking forward to your next knife fighting class!! |

Wez, In Texas the legal limit is a 5 1/2" blade regardless of whether it's fixed or folding. To eliviate any doubt measure fron the hilt of the handle to the point of the blade. Folders are regarded as less aggressive but are just as effective. Carry it where you like except of course the secure area of airports, courts, govt building etc. Many of these buildings have metal detectors and you will have to either stow it in your vehicle or check it with their security, be sure to get a claim ticket.
I look forward to having you in the knife class. It's important to have the skill as well as the knife.

I just wanted to add, make sure your knife is not spring-assisted (switchblade or stilleto, meaning an "automatic" knife) and it cannot be double-edged.
If you'd like more info, go to the following link to the Texas Penal Code and look under Chapter 46 Section 46.05 PROHIBITED WEAPONS. The Definitions will tell you what the state declares legal and illegal:

Very true. You do not want an automatic or assisted opening knife in the Hoffner program, it will slow you down. I look forward to having you in the knife class, once you have attended you will never want to be without your blade.
