I love the 1911's and enjoy the feel and results you get from a .45 ACP but I settled on a Glock 17 after training with Hoff and learning that it's all about the hits, period. I have a big palm and prefer a full size pistol but concealed carry can be a problem in the summer. I was about to get the R9 based on Hoff's recommendation but decided to try the PF-9 by Keltec and put the money I saved into more Hoffner's training. I was first looking at the Kahr but heard too many hangup complaints. I'm still breaking in the PF-9 but no problems so far and it is small, light and as easy to conceal as the R9.

Be advised that the PF-9 comes with only one magazine. They are in stock at Kel-Tec and ship promptly. I recommend using the grip extension unless you have a very small hand.

Hoff,
I have a Kel-Tec PF9. It's a great CCW gun. Sights are small for precision shots at distances over 15-20 yards, and the trigger is typical Kel-Tec, but it works great for "handgun distances". I am waiting on a couple of spare mags for mine. I found that with the very thin backstrap on the frame, combined with hot winchester SXT loads equals a sore hand after about 50-100 rounds.

I rarely have the opportunity to carry it, as my wife has began to claim it as her own..... Guess I'll have to scrounge up another one. Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Yeah, I think they are a nice little carry gun and a good way to get our wives to carry.

I don't see any refenence to the S&W M&P line of polymer pistols. Is there a reason to avoid these pistols?

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with the pistols. Only complaint folks seem to consistently have is the gritty trigger at the start that does smooth out after several hundred rounds or some work by someone like Bowie Tactical.

I personally like the idea and the feel but have become so tuned to my Glocks that it's hard to change.

The S&W M&P Pistol is finally a true quality fighting pistol from the S&W line. It is a keeper. I like it and it's popularity is growing by the moment.

Thanks for the input. I've been in "analysis paralysis" trying to decide between the Glock 19, M&P9c, and M&P45c. Pistol will be for carry and hopefully some upcoming Hoffner training. I like the 9mm with appropriate loads for carry and cheaper ammo for training. But I can't dismiss the new M&P45c because it is almost the exact same size as the Glock 19. Lesser capacity but I already have a 1911 that I use for range sessions.

the cool thing about the M&P is that the 9mm, .40, & 45 are all pretty much the same size and will fit in the same holster. Most of the time the 45s are going to be fat at the grip, the M&P is not.

I have a S&W M&P .45 that does not have the magazine disconnect feature. I like it alot. It's a big gun compared to my daily carry guns, and as a result does not get carried often, but I shoot it regularly. It is a very natural pointing pistol for my hand size and, as mentioned before, the trigger does smooth out nice. I realy like the way it fits my hand in a two hand hold, as my support hand wraps naturally around it and it sits low in the web of my had. Recoil control in rapid shot strings is outstanding. I have no complaints about it's reliability so far, as it has never malfunctioned. I only have about 350-400 rounds through it so far, but it digests everything I give it and holds most round to point of aim if they are in the 230 grain weight class.

I have picked up one spare magazine for it, beyond the second mag that it shipped with, but am having trouble getting additional spare mags.

I shoot the snot out of my M&P40 and love it. I did have to modify the trigger guard a little so it wouldn't dig into my middle finger during extended shooting. I also took out the mag disconnect. My wife has also started coveting how nice it is to shoot.
