| Brian's courses are as compact and comprehensive as any class I have seen. But the question is how do you practice? Mindset is perhaps better described as a lifestyle and of course mostly cerebral. Regarding weapon handling skills I prefer performance oriented competition. It ain't real, but your level of performance is the truth. So, how do you practice? |

Liam,
In the Houston area, what type of competitive shotgun events are there? I would prefer moving and timed drills, and various scenarios such as what I've seen at IDPA. |

I train and practice when I can. As an example:
I work a night shift, 1800-0600. When my family schedule permits it, I get off work and run to the non-PD/citizen owned range we contract with. I have the keys and the alarm code. Get inside and spend an hour practicing trigger work, sighting and standard responses.
When on duty and there is some slow time, go downstairs, clear the gun for dry fire and practice draws and so on.
You can find the time. You can determine the training.
And yet, I still feel as if I am not getting enough trigger time. |

Amen on the trigger time and the dry firing. If you peek in my office window you can see the target hung on the inside of one of the locker doors, if I leave one open.
The back of the office is lined with wooden lockers which are in front of concrete and dirt. The rest of the office is lined with concrete and is underground, as I run the property room.
I unload the weapon and practice presentations to front sight on target.
Morris and I have it good with the range codes and key, but we also both have families and time demands. |

Shotguns generally get one stage or two at local 3 gun matches. But, that doesn't mean groups of Hoffner devotees can't get out and practice together. For an example of some courses of fire visit the Old Bridge NJ club site and view their upcoming match.
